The plan today was to set off and see what the cloud was actually doing and then decide where to walk. The cloud base seemed too high to take the chance on getting a proper cloud inversion from the high fells and we didn't feel the need to stick at valley level. So, once it came into view, Latrigg was chosen as an in between compromise - - a good one as it turned out.

Looking back along the path just as we enter the cloud for a little while.

Perfect timing. As we got to the seat the cloud started to break up, come & go, and give us 10 minutes of nice cloud drama. Just right of centre is the top of Dodd.

"You two show no interest in the nice things I want to sniff, yet you expect me to stand here looking at clouds"

After enjoying the show we continued over the top of Latrigg. Here we look back down to the seat and the north western fells in the distance.

Latrigg tree, taken just before we briefly enter the cloud again.

Lonscale fell (left) and Blease Fell (right). Both hidden by cloud but definitely in there somewhere.

From the point we join the old Brundholme road we stop for something to eat and tell ourselves that not getting too high was probably a good idea today after all. The fell in the centre is High Rigg.

Autumn colours lining the A66. Some sunshine would have been nice to show them off but if we'd had a day of sunshine, we'd have missed out on the cloud show.
