Southport Pier Sunset

1st June 2022

We regularly visit Southport through the Summer months usualy treating ourselves to fish and chips before taking Brad and Holly for a walk on the beech.

It was during our last visit back in May did I suggest that we should return to catch the sunset one evening. Tonight was that evening.

Marine Way Bridge.
We arrived a tad early so to kill some time we walked back into town to grab a bag of chips. Paula's favourite chippy was closed but we managed to find another whose chips were just as good. You've never had chips like Southport chips.

Southport Pier.
We left Marine Way by way of a footbridge and linked up with the pier. This is the view we'd be walking towards later but first it's chippy time.

Southport Pier.
After we had eaten our chips we returned to the pier to witness incredible light reflecting off the wooden deck and tram rails.

Southport Pier.
It wasn't just us heading out to see tonights sunset the clear skies seemed to have brought the crowds out.

Southport Pier.
Fantastic.

Southport Pier.
We reached the point where the pier crosses the road to find that we couldn't walk any further because this last section of pier was closed to the public so we took the steps down to the road and decided to walk to the end of the pier via the beach.

Southport Pier.
Southport Pier is the second longest pier in the country after Southend Pier and was build in 1860

Stunning views as we join the beach.

We pass below the pier.

The building at the end is a cafe/bar added at a later date.

Southport sunset.
We walked as far as the end of the pier where we were joined by a light breeze, no need for a big coat though.

Sunset reflections.
It's a pity the sea is so far out but the standing water still gave off some nice reflections.

Time to head back to sea wall.

Back on Southport Pier.

The breeze strengthened during the walk back and I found myself blowing warm air into cupped fist. By the time we reached the sea wall a crowd had gathered and on the opposite side of the road folk drinking in a nearby beer garden were also taking pictures, time seemed to freeze.

I returned to the pier to take a few more shots before heading back to the car. By now it was getting late but the sky was still awash in a beautiful afterglow which filled my rear view mirror as we left Southport before darkness finally took over.
