Aira Force & Gowbarrow Fell

5th December 2009

Having not been on the fells now for over 3 weeks I was itching to get back, & what with all the bad weather Cumbria has suffered, my own work commitments & a season ticket for Wigan Athletics I’m surprised I actually found the time for this gem of a walk! But fingers crossed I have a bit of free time coming up & so should see myself on the fells a bit more often give or take Wigan’s home games which in fact to do this walk I had, or shall I say missed Wigan v Birmingham …maybe of been a blessing in disguise jeeez!

I’ve got Owen my son with me today ,My original plan was to do a walk on the 6th (Sunday) but out the two days Saturday was the best weather wise which then meant as I said missing a home game at the DW ,I really do hate juggling two of my favourite past times against one another ,If I didn’t do this walk today it would mean another two weeks before I’m back up here & to be quite frank I couldn’t wait that long

A swollen Aira Beck

Aira Force

65Ft of water crashing down ,I actually thought it had began to rain but in fact it was the spray coming from the falls ,I must of taken twenty or so pictures here but every one was just getting the lense misted up!

Looking down from the bridge seen in the last picture .

Probably one of the most photographed bridges in all the Lake District.

Approaching High Force & its just starting to rain a little.

Looking towards Sheffield Pike & Glencoyne Park.

Spot the rainbow !

Park Gate Farm & Great Dodd top left of the picture .

Ulllswater & I’m thinking is the sun trying to make an appearance here ?

I feel pretty lucky to have captured these beautiful pics within all of 30 seconds the sun had disappeared again,…And while I was taking these pictures so had ……

Owen!

Gowbarrow Summit with Little Mell Fell behind .

And Great Mell Fell to the north.

Owen’s 7th Wainwright ,And like his owd dad he’s got along way to go

It wasn’t exactly windy on the summit just wet, so we decided on going down a little further before we had lunch

Eh ,you give a the lad a camera !

Approaching the Old Shooting Lodge .

Aira Point, & looking down on Lyulph’s Tower

St Sunday Crag in the far distance ,What a great day we’ve had the weathers been kind for a change & as usual the views didn’t let us down either , This walk turned out a lot better than I ever thought it could ,Great great walk.
